Farewell to Anglicanism by H M Carson.

Herbert Carson was ordained to the ministry of the Church of Ireland by the then Bishop of Connor. Serving two curacies in Belfast followed by a Travelling Secretaryship with the Inter-Varsity Fellowship Herbert Carson was instituted to the Parish of St Michael and All Angels, Blackheath in 1953. Five years later he became Vicar of St Paul's Cambridge, where he remained for seven years.

His secession from the Church of England in 1965 stirred the secular press as well as the religious journals. Refusing in spite of many invitations to commit himself to print at the time, the sympathetic interest of an Anglican Conference caused him to change his mind and wrote this book. This is not simply the personal recollections of one man’s heart-searching, but an examination of the elements of Anglicanism which causes many of its members serious misgivings. Coupled with a candid rejection of Anglicanism where is a warm sympathy for the clergy of this church who find themselves in similar difficulties but who as yet do feel its time for them to secede.

In the light of present theological direction of the Anglican church both in England and Ireland and the claim by some Anglican Evangelicals that their present position and perspectives holds high hope for the future, this book is offered as a timely corrective.
